XL is a long-form board: six categories mixed together, so there is plenty of room for words that fit two or three groups at once.
Start by scanning for the most specific category on the board. Once one group is gone, the rest of the board gets easier to read.
Find groups of words that share something in common.

Each wrong guess costs one mistake. “One away” means only one word is wrong.
